Family Owned and Independent Since 1955 Founders Joel and Portia Levingston were in business just two years when their original building was destroyed by a tornado that struck Groves in 1957. They immediately rebuilt at their present location at Highway 73 and 39th Street in Groves. In 1991, the Levingstons acquired their second location at 2001 Nall in Port Neches. Now they serve all of South and Mid-Jefferson County, Texas, including Port Arthur and Beaumont. The company has remained a truly family-owned business with the founders' grown children, Kathy and Jay Levingston, now active in the daily operation. In the words of the Levingston family: "We listen to you. We are here to take care of the smallest detail during your time of need. Your loved one is special to you and your family and the funeral service should reflect that love. Each service we conduct is one-of-a-kind and personalized to your wishes." Joel Levingston is a combat veteran, having served in the US Army during the Korean conflict. He was named "Funeral Director of the Year" by the Texas Funeral Director's Association in 1997. For someone who first dreamed of becoming a funeral director at the age of nine, it was the culmination of his life's work. Portia Levingston plays an active role in both the Texas and national funeral associations. She also volunteers her time for many local civic projects.
