A Jackson Stansbury

July 10, 1928 — December 12, 2009

A Jackson "Jack" Stansbury, 81, of Port Arthur, died on Saturday, December 12, 2009, in Christus St. Mary Hospital. Jack was the son of A.J. and Alice Stansbury and a lifelong resident of Port Arthur. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, Jack earned a degree in Architecture at Texas A&M University. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea then returned to Port Arthur to practice, earning his architecture certificate in 1957. For most of his career he was a partner in the firm Moore Stansbury & Vaught and was happiest working with congregations designing churches, though his projects ranged from private homes to school theaters. In 2006 this work was honored by the Southeast Texas Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the Associated General Contractors of Southeast Texas. He was passionate about the Aggies and the deep friendships that began in college lasted for the remainder of his life. He was an inveterate cartoonist, with Ann's calendar of the year's best a family tradition. He also had a lifelong love of dogsa feeling more than returned by generations of faithful companions. A gathering of friends and family will take place from 4:00p.m.-7:00p.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. A memorial service will be held at 10:00a.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at the United Methodist Temple followed by burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his daughter, Ann Deen, and her husband, Jim Deen, both of Plano, Texas; his son, Mark, and his wife, Gabi Behrens, both of Galway, Ireland; and his sister, Jean Witt, of Searcy, Arkansas. In the later part of his life his care-givers grew to be part of our family: Sabina Perez, Esmy Rocha, and Sandra Olaye. Memorial contributions in memory of Jack Stansbury to the Beaumont Chapter of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
