Matthew Allen Hill

December 10, 1986 — January 16, 2021

Matthew Allen Hill, 34, of Baytown, Texas, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021. He was born in Nederland, Texas on December 10, 1986 to Mark and Gwen Hill. Matthew graduated from Nederland High School in 2005 and Sam Houston State University in 2011. He worked for Kroger Distributors in Houston, Texas.
Matt was a man who lived life in a simple fashion and made every moment matter. Everyone in his life had a special relationship with him.
He was someone who was often very calm, but once he warmed up over a topic of interest, his enthusiasm was off the charts! His interests were limitless and he was always hungry for something new! He had a passion for games, reading, movies, documentaries, music, and being amongst nature. As an Eagle Scout, his draw to nature was deeply rooted and you could often find him on Toledo Bend fishing or in the woods exploring a new trail. He was also renowned for his ability to locate great "dives" to eat at!
Matt shared an extraordinary relationship with all animals. He cherished his kitties and all of the woodland animals. You could always find him getting excited over the wildlife and feeding them when possible! Matt also had great affection for birds; one could always see his eyes light up when watching a video of a bird dancing about!
His words were important, without even intending it. Without fail, something wise or hilarious always left his mouth. He possessed knowledge on many topics, a trait many people admire about him. Although quiet, he was someone with who you could always have an entertaining conversation. One always left a conversation with him bearing new ideas and thoughts!
He was an old soul with a child at heart. This was most evident with his nephew Colton, whom he greatly adored. Colton is his joy and the smiles between the two of them could light up a room. Uncle Matt always enjoyed playing sports with Colton, especially football and teaching him how to be victorious in games like Mario, Monopoly and Putt-Putt.
His heart was full of love; love for God, family, friends, and the good things in life. An unkind word never left his mouth. He was an open individual, embracing all religions and worshiping with each one when he was able to. To him, God was not defined by one religion.
Matthew is preceded in death by his grandparents, LaRoche Henry (L. H.) and JoAnn Hill and Freddie and Shirley Forrest; and his uncle, Danny Forrest.
Survivors include his parents, Mark and Gwen Hill; his sister, Melissa Lundberg and her husband, Kyle; his nephew, Colton Johnson, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Due to Covid, services for Matt will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
