Ms. Rhonda Kay Reed

July 17, 1963 — July 23, 2022

Rhonda Kay Reed, 59, of Port Neches, passed away on July 23, 2022, at her home.

Rhonda, was born in Lewiston, Idaho, on July 17, 1963. She was the daughter of Whitman Larry Reed and Vanta Verldean Manning Reed. She was a resident of Port Neches for 47 years. She graduated from Port Neches-Groves High School and later graduated from University Medical Branch at Galveston with a Master of Science in Nursing, graduating with highest honors. Rhonda received certifications for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Texas, Basic Life Support, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Rhonda also belonged to several organizations: American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), Galveston Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses, Texas Nurse Practitioners (TNP), Southeast Texas Nurse Practitioners SETNP (Secretary), Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN), Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society Inc. (STTI), Texas Pain Association, and Who’s Who of America.

Rhonda was an advocate for the less fortunate, regardless of species. As a Nurse, Rhonda traveled with multiple Medical Mission trips to Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and others. When she wasn’t caring for humans, Rhonda was an avid supporter of animals. She always has multiple pets that would often accompany her to the local Sonic or Jack-in-the-Box and would feed the neighborhood animals as well. There was never a cat she didn’t like, nor a cat that met Rhonda that didn’t like her.

Outside of caring for others, Rhonda was an avid movie goer, reader, shopper, and gift giver. She enjoyed few things more than traveling down to Galveston to enjoy the beach and a book.

She was preceded in death by her father, Whitman Larry Reed; and her sister, Cynthia Reed.

She is survived by her mother, Vanta Reed of Port Neches; son, Seth Taylor Reed of Austin, Texas; and son, Benjamin Blane Skinner of Port Neches, Texas.
