February 7, 1928 - December 14, 2020
Verdie (Moss) Gleason, lovingly called Mamaw Verdie by her family, was born in Sulphur, Louisiana, on February 7, 1928. On Monday, December 14, 2020, when God called her home, she closed her eyes one last time and then re-opened them to the glory of heaven. It brought the family much comfort to know that she always knew the caregivers at her nursing home, and Donna and David, the son-in-law he liked to call her son-in-heart, would watch over her until she began her last journey. Verdie adapted to each change in her life, always feeling like her glass was half-full, never half-empty, trusting God to bless her in all of life's circumstances. Verdie was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her kind spirit, her empathy and compassion for others, her generosity for those in need, her loyalty, her tolerance for the mistakes of others, and her forgiving spirit that caused her to encourage others not to judge others for their mistakes. Most of all, she will be remembered for her appreciation of life and God's blessings even in trying times, She will be greatly missed, especially at holidays where, before life took her health, she used her unsurpassed cooking skills to create delicious meals with tempting tastes and smells that will continue to trigger many precious memories of holidays spent with her-memories that will be cherished and stored in the hearts of her loved ones for years to come until we join her in heaven. Since 1946, Verdie has been a resident of our area, where she and her adored husband of 69 years, George W. "Bill" Gleason, raised their family. Through the years, she and Bill enjoyed gardening, fishing, and traveling the United States to see the wonders of our great country, many times bringing their beloved grandson, Troy, with them. Verdie was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Gladys Moss, Sr., of Sulphur, Louisiana, and her husband, George W. "Bill" Gleason. She is survived by their daughter, Donna, and David, her son-in-law who chose to be her beloved caregiver for over a decade. Verdie is also survived by her son, John Gleason, and his wife, Diane, and grandchildren, Troy and Alicia Guidry, Belinda and her husband, Jeremy Battenfield, Brian Gleason, and 10 great grandchildren whom she adored-Taylor and Paisley Guidry, Cody and Kiera Battenfield, and Jeffery, Jada, Patrick, Jade, Moani, and Elaika Gleason. She is also survived by a multitude of beloved nieces and nephews, and her precious caregivers at Senior Rehabilitation whom she considered family and her guardian angels on earth. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches followed by the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. with Dr. Jason Burden officiating. Burial will be Friday, December 18, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 3098 Highway 69 N Nederland, Texas.
